Helping the poor in rural Honduras

Computer School

Computer schoolEducation is one of the keys to escaping poverty. In a location that did not even have electricity in 1994, the demand for learning resources is extremely high. Typically in the schools, there are only a few books and the teachers draw the pictures in the book on a chalk board. Imagine the ability for a school aged child to go on the internet to learn and research any topic she or he desires.

Thanks to the generosity of the engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin and its employees, we have equipped a building in the village of Concepcion with give computers and internet access. Teachers and Peace Corps volunteers teach the children basic computer skills and how to use the internet after school. They have developed a curriculum of five "grades" for the school, and more computer schools are planned using this model.
