Home Water Filters
The people of Intibuca now have access to a low cost, simple ceramic water filter for home use.
The filter is made in Honduras using a tested design from Potters for Peace (an international organization providing ceramic filters worldwide). The filter uses a 5 gallon bucket, with a ceramic insert which is coated with colloidal silver. The silver kills bacteria, especially those that cause diarrhea, and enables families to produce up to three liters per hour of clean drinking water. Larger collection buckets with the standard filter can provide clean water to schools, clinics and community centers.
Shoulder to Shoulder is currently distributing the filters in some of the poorest areas of Honduras to those in greatest need, using a graduated cost scale. In many cases, filters are given to families who cannot pay for them. Income from filter sales will be used to buy and distribute additional filters.
Besides providing clean water, the filters will provide a micro-enterprise for distributing filters throughout Honduras, which will benefit the economy.
For $25, you can give a family a complete water filter—and 4-6 years of clean water. Donate to the Water Filter Program today!
